Scope and Contents

Telegram from Mackenzie King [Prime Minister of Canada] to WSC marked "personal and private" commenting on the pleasure he derived from WSC's "charming personal message" after his election victory, and reporting on the splendid showing made in his own constituency despite the most unfavourable circumstances: " Prince Albert is as far from Ottawa as Cairo from London. Until the recent campaign I had only been able to visit the constituents once since the General Election five years ago". He concludes by saying, "Under God's providence, it looks as if I might continue to be at your side, at least to the end of hostilities. I pray it may be so. Meanwhile, will do all possible to keep the Commonwealth and Empire together". With single annotation by WSC.
