Scope and Contents

Telegram from Acting British High Commissioner in Australia to the Dominions Office marked "top secret and personal" regarding the health of John Curtin (Prime Minister of Australia): states that there has been no recent bulletin but that Curtin is at his Canberra residence and is still a very sick man; comments on the speculation as to whether Curtin will resign; identifies Francis Forde [Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for the Army] and Joseph Chifley [Treasurer and Minister for Post War Reconstruction] as possible successors and states that Chifley would probably win.
