Letter from Major Ian Patterson (Special Boat Service, 4 Academy Street, Athens [Greece]) to his mother describing the conditions in Greece: states that the British have a duty to ensure a free plebiscite; believes that the English and American papers are aggravating the situation; comments on ELAS and the partisan movements, their attitude towards fighting the Germans, their intimidation of the population, and their mistake in not moving more quickly; expresses his sorrow for Greece and its ordinary people; wishes that people at home would listen to WSC [typescript copy] With note indicating that Major Patterson was killed accidentally in an aircraft crash on 21 Dec [1944].
