Scope and Contents

Telegram from WSC to Field Marshal Sir John Dill [Representative of the British Chiefs of Staff in Washington, United States] marked "personal and most secret" emphasising that there is no question at that time of diverting forces from Upper Burma [later Myanmar] for Culverin [attack on the Japanese-held Dutch East Indies, later Indonesia]; and informing him that he has heard that General Orde Wingate [Commander of Special Force, India Command] is missing and probably dead, calling the news "a very heavy blow". Flagged: "X".
