(Untitled), 17 Dec 1944
Scope and Contents
Telegram from WSC to President Roosevelt marked "Personal and Top Secret, Private and Confidential" expressing doubts about the appointment of Archbishop Damaskinos [Archbishop of Athens, Greece] as Regent of Greece; stating that the War Cabinet has postponed its decision on the above matter for three or four days awaiting the course of military operations; that he objects to disarming the Greek Mountain Brigade and the Sacred Squadron; justifying the British position on Greece and indicating that he has support from Labour Ministers and the vast majority of the House of Commons.
