Scope and Contents

Telegram from General Sir Ronald Scobie [General Officer Commanding Greece] to WSC marked "Personal" stating that he knows of no peace offer from ELAS [Communist-led National Popular Liberation Army]; that he is prepared to put down rebellion throughout Greece if this is necessary; that he is pleased at the assurance that large reinforcements are being sent; that it is a pity that tear gas may not be used; that a visit by Field Marshal Sir Harold Alexander [later Lord Alexander of Tunis, Commander in Chief of the Allied Armies in Italy] will be of more value at a later date.
