Scope and Contents

Telegram from WSC to President Roosevelt marked "Personal and Top Secret" setting out his views on the war situation, commenting on: the delay in reaching the Rhine; the prospect of the escape home of a large part of the German forces from the Balkan Peninsula; frustration in Italy and in Burma [later Myanmar]; the withdrawal of Chinese troops from the Burmese front for the defence of China; the positive position in the Pacific; prospects on the Russian Front; also expressing his dismay at the delay in arranging the next triple meeting between Marshal Stalin, Roosevelt and WSC; and suggesting that Roosevelt might send the United States Chiefs of Staff to Europe if he is unable to come himself before February 1945.
