Scope and Contents
Telegram from Field Marshal Sir Harold Alexander [later Lord Alexander of Tunis, Commander in Chief of the Allied Armies in Italy] to WSC marked "Personal and Private. Top Guard Secret" approving of WSC's suggestions for re-organising Allied Command in the Mediterranean, but urging that General Mark Clark [Commander of United States Fifth Army] becomes commander of a group of armies directly under Alexander; stating that he can take over Supreme Command with his existing staff; suggesting that Lieutenant General Lucian Truscott takes over Command of the United States Fifth Army; looking forward to working with Harold MacMillan [later Lord Stockton, British High Commissioner for Italy].
