Scope and Contents
Telegram from Anthony Eden [later Lord Avon, Foreign Secretary] in Athens [Greece] to WSC commenting on situation in Greece: stating that supply problems have improved; that he will be staying to talk to Sir David Waley [Principal Assistant Secretary, HM Treasury], along with Harold MacMillan [later Lord Stockton, British High Commissioner for Italy] and Lord Moyne [earlier Walter Guinness, Deputy Minister of State, Middle East]; that he intends to leave for Italy on 29 October; describing the uncertain political situation with regard to the Communists and the King; stating that George Papandreou [Prime Minister of Greece] is taking steps to establish a National Army.
