Scope and Contents

Telegram from WSC to President Roosevelt marked "Personal and Top Secret" stating that he has reached Moscow; that he is distressed by the situation in Italy following discussions with General Sir Henry Wilson [later 1st Lord Wilson, Supreme Allied Commander Mediterranean Theatre] and Field Marshal Sir Harold Alexander [later Lord Alexander of Tunis, Commander in Chief of the Allied Armies in Italy]; that Operation Dracula [Allied attack on the Rangoon area, Burma, later Myanmar] has had to be postponed; asking for two or three United States divisions to be deflected to Italy; stating that Wilson is forwarding his plan for an attack on Istria [Italy] to the Combined Chiefs of Staff; and he is pleased General George Marshal [Chief of Staff United States Army] is in France and that he hopes he can be sent to Italy.
