Scope and Contents

Telegram from Major General Sir Edward Spears [First Minister to the Republics of Syria and the Lebanon] to WSC marked "Personal" stating that: he is relieved that WSC is aware of the precarious situation with regard to the Levant States [Syria and the Lebanon]; but that British influence on Syria is waning since there does not seem to be a consistent policy with regard to the transfer of "Troupes Speciales" [Syrian troops serving with the French Army] to the Syrians; nevertheless he will endeavour to prevent the situation from escalating.
