Note from George Harvie Watt [Parliamentary Private Secretary to WSC] to WSC describing the political career of [1st] Lord Elton stating that: he contested the Thornbury Division of Gloucestershire as a Socialist in 1924 and 1929; that he was expelled from the Labour Party for supporting Ramsay MacDonald; that he then became honorary Political Secretary of the National Labour Committee and was editor of the National Labour Group's newsletter; that he was created a peer in 1934 by Ramsay MacDonald and that it has been suggested that he is toying with the idea of joining the Conservative Party.
