Telegram from WSC (Washington, United States) to General Sir Claude Auchinleck (Commander in Chief Middle East) and repeated to the Minister of State in the Middle East [Richard Casey] regarding the fall of Tobruk [Libya]: hopes that there will be stern resistance along the Sollum frontier and refers to special intelligence regarding the enemy; comments on reinforcements; comments on his personal reaction to the news; comments on decision of President Roosevelt and high United States authorities to send the Second United States Armoured Division to the Middle East; instructs Auchinleck to inspire all his forces "with an intense will to resist".
