Some written by WSC when in the Middle East.Includes texts of minutes from WSC (annotated with additional printed information) to: members of the Cabinet and other government ministers; the Chiefs of Staff; General Sir Hastings Ismay [Chief of Staff to the Minister of Defence]; Major-General Leslie Hollis [Military Assistant Secretary to the War Cabinet]; Sir Edward Bridges [Secretary to the War Cabinet].Subjects covered by the minutes include: discussion of naval operations in various theatres, particularly the Mediterranean; proposed operations against Germany in western Europe; transporting vehicles from Britain; discussion of "Anakim" [code name for proposed British amphibious assault on Rangoon, Burma, later Myanmar]; differences in the pay rates of British and American soldiers; Arctic convoys; tank provision; civil service matters; questions by Secretary of State for the Dominions, Clement Attlee [Deputy Prime Minister], on the war effort; discussion of "Torch" in north-west Africa; supplying munitions to Turkey; exaggerated press coverage of commando operations.
