Correspondence between the Foreign Office, Lord Halifax [British Ambassador to the United States, earlier Edward Wood and Lord Irwin], Lord Cranborne [Secretary of State for the Colonies [later 5th Lord Salisbury], WSC and the Duke of Windsor [Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Bahamas, earlier King Edward VIII and Edward, Prince of Wales] concerning telegrams from Windsor to Cranborne and Halifax, requesting leave to visit New York and head a Trade Delegation to Washington; includes Halifax's view that following anti-British sentiment, the visit should be unofficial and Cranborne's concerns about Windsor heading such a delegation; also includes covering correspondence between Ruth Malleson, Private Secretary, Colonial Office, Colin Thornley [Assistant Private Secretary to Cranborne], and John Martin and Leslie Rowan [Private Secretaries to WSC].
