Scope and Contents

Telegram from WSC to General Sir Archibald Wavell [Commander- in-Chief, Middle East] reporting decision of Defence Committee that nothing in Syria must detract from the importance of winning the battle of Crete [Greece]; permits the mingling of British troops with the Free French who are to enter Syria, and states that Wavell is wrong in supposing that policy of 20th May over Syria arose from representations by the Free French leaders or Major General Edward Spears [Head of British Mission to General Charles de Gaulle].
