Scope and Contents

Telegram from WSC to General Sir Archibald Wavell [Commander-in-Chief, Middle East] stating that he does not object to Wavell going to Basra to meet Commander-in-Chief, India [General Sir Claude Auchinleck] but presumes that Wavell is personally making sure that the contents of "Tiger" [Codename for operation to pass merchant ships through Mediterranean] are placed at the hands of troops at the earliest moment, and citing 2nd Epistle to the Corinthians Chapter VI Verse 2. Asks Wavell whether another dozen tanks should go to help "Scorcher" [Codename for the British occupation and defence of Crete, Greece]. Comments on situation in Iraq, explains that immediate task is to beat down Rashid Ali's forces with the utmost vigour, and urges acceleration of mobile column. States that movement of Indian Brigade eastward to Palestine [later Israel] must not be at expense of offensive action in desert theatre.
