Scope and Contents
Telegram from Vice-Admiral John De Robeck, Dardanelles, to WSC, First Lord of the Admiralty, reporting that he did not anticipate difficulties protecting ships against mines. Also reporting that smoke screens would be used to cover landings if they could be usefully employed, but they might be double edged weapons. Stating that intelligence reports indicated that there was a plentiful supply of water on the Gallipoli Peninsula, and that estimates of the number of Turkish troops on both sides of the Straits ranged from 50,000 - 100,000 [typescript copy].
