Scope and Contents
Letter from WSC, First Lord of the Admiralty to Admiral Sir John Jelllicoe, C. in C., Grand Fleet, on the strength of the Grand Fleet, pointing out that his position was much stronger than at the beginning of the War, also on senior naval appointments, commenting that Rear-Admiral Herbert Heath should remain as Admiral Superintendent, Portsmouth Dockyard, and that while he did not find Rear-Admiral Henry Tottenham very agreeable, he wa sa man of character, determination and professional ability and fully deserved a Cruiser Squadron in the Grand Fleet, also on the increasing deafness of Vice-Admiral Sir George Warrender, and his suitability to remain in command of the 2nd Battle Cruiser Squadron [handwritten copy, with typed transcript, signed by WSC, annotated "never sent" by James Masterton Smith].
