Letter from Admiral Sir John Jellicoe [Commander-in-Chief, Home Fleet] to WSC, First Lord of the Admiralty, on the appointment of a temporary commander for the Grand Fleet, and other senior appointments, commenting on the qualities of Vice-Admiral Cecil Burney, Admiral Sir Stanley Colville, Rear-Admiral Hugh Evan-Thomas, Rear-Admiral Sir Archibald Moore, Rear-Admiral Rosslyn Wemyss [later 1st Lord Wester Wemyss], Rear-Admiral William Pakenham, Rear-Admiral Cecil Dampier and Rear-Admiral William Goodenough. Jellicoe also comments on the appointment of Vice-Admiral Sir David Beatty to command the Grand Fleet in his absence, pointing out the impossibility of Beatty commanding the Grand Fleet, while remaining in temporary command of the Battle Cruiser Squadron.
