Scope and Contents
Telegram from the Commander-in-Chief, Grand Fleet [Admiral Sir John Jellicoe] to WSC, First Lord of the Admiralty, on the proposed appointment of Vice-Admiral Sir David Beatty to command the Grand Fleet during Jellicoe's absence. Jellicoe states that it would be quite impossible for Beatty to be in command, or second in command of the Grand Fleet, while also retaining command of the battle cruisers, strongly urging WSC to leave Beatty in command of the Battle Cruiser Squadron. He points out the immense objection to sending officers to command Battle Squadrons who had little experience of the work, and who were ignorant of Jellicoe's own disposition of squadron and methods. [Carbon].
