Scope and Contents
Telegram from Admiralty to Rear-Admiral Ernest Troubridge (HMS Defence) [Mediterranean Cruiser Squadron], on the importance of showing no sign of hostile intention towards Turkey. The telegram states that Troubridge's duty was to prevent the [German battle cruiser] Goeben and the [light cruiser] Breslau from leaving the Dardanelles, ordering him to use no threats and to keep in touch with the Ambassador at Constantinople [later Istanbul]. Initialled by WSC and Prince Louis of Battenberg [1st Sea Lord, later 1st Lord Milford Haven]. [Carbon].
