Scope and Contents
Letter from Admiral of the Fleet 1st Lord Fisher [1st Sea Lord] to WSC [First Lord of the Admiralty] criticising Vice-Admiral Sir George Warrender [Commander, 2nd Battle Squadron] for allowing German battle cruisers to escape following a raid on Scarborough [Yorkshire]. Fisher suggests that Warrender be made Commander-in-Chief, Portsmouth, in succession to Admiral Sir Hedworth Meux [earlier Hedworth Lambton] and that Vice-Admiral Sackville Carden should succeed Warrender and Vice-Admiral Sir [Frederick] Doveton Sturdee then be sent to the Dardanelles as Commander-in-Chief, Mediterranean in Carden's place. [Hand-written, with typescript copy].
