Scope and Contents
Letter from Prince Louis of Battenberg [later 1st Lord Milford Haven] to WSC [First Lord of the Admiralty] offering his resignation as 1st Sea Lord, as his birth and parentage were impairing his usefulness on the Board of Admiralty. Battenberg asks for a public sign indicating that he still commanded the confidence and trust of King George V and the Government; he also comments on the question of his successor, recommending Admiral of the Fleet 1st Lord Fisher as 1st Sea Lord, and Admiral of the Fleet Sir Arthur Wilson as Chief of the War Staff. Also includes copy of WSC's reply, accepting his resignation and expressing his appreciation of Battenberg's service.
