Scope and Contents

Minute from WSC [First Lord of the Admiralty] to the Prime Minister [Herbert Asquith, later 1st Lord Oxford and Asquith] on the Admiralty Honours List, asking for CB's [Commanderships of the Order of the Bath] for James Masterton Smith [Private Secretary to WSC] and Reginald Acland, the Judge-Advocate of the Fleet. WSC states that if a Civil CB was impossible for Acland, he should be considered for a simple knighthood; WSC also comments on the claims of Anthony Lyster, President of the Institute of Civil Engineers, and Alfred Yarrow.
