(Untitled), 27 Aug 1912
Scope and Contents
Minute from WSC to the 2nd Sea Lord [Prince Louis of Battenberg, later 1st Lord Milford Haven], expressing enthusiasm for the Sea Scout movement: WSC asks what the Admiralty could do to help, and what the Boy Scouts could do to help the Admiralty. He suggests that Battenberg should meet Sir Robert Baden-Powell [founder of the Boy Scouts], and tell him of WSC's interest, adding that a summer camp could be arranged in a very old ship at different points along the coast, which would be an immense attraction, putting the Navy in touch with lots of small boys who a little later in their lives could be recruited for the service; WSC promises to spend "a little money on a good plan".
