(Untitled), 01 Feb 1912
Scope and Contents
Letter from Lewis Harcourt, Colonial Office, to WSC, First Lord of the Admiralty, admitting the desirability of transferring the battle cruiser "New Zealand" from the China Station to the Home Fleet, for service in the Home Fleet, but requesting that the matter be brought before the Cabinet, because of opposition from the New Zealand Government, and possible adverse press publicity, with manuscript note by WSC, that he did not feel it worthwhile to start a long Cabinet discussion, and that he wished to raise the question as part of a general discussion on the Naval Estimates, and that if Germany abandoned naval increases in the North Sea "we will try to do without the ship".
