Letter from Sir Francis Hopwood [Vice-Chairman, Development Commission, later 1st Lord Southborough] (Hawkshead House, Hatfield, Hertfordshire) to WSC, enclosing a draft letter to the shipbuilding trades unions on the contract for the construction of warships on the premises of the Thames Ironworks; the draft allows for paying the recognised London wages but stipulates that they should work the hours generally recognised in shipbuilding yards in principal shipbuilding centres (53 per week) and asks for the views of the unions.
