Scope and Contents
Letter from 2nd Lord Selborne [former First Lord of the Admiralty, earlier Lord Wolmer] (Brooks's, St James's Street [London]) to WSC with congratulations on the appointment of Prince Louis of Battenberg [later 1st Lord Milford Haven, as 2nd Sea Lord], commenting that he was the ablest officer in the Royal Navy, and if his name had been Smith he would have filled various high offices; also that his career had nearly been maimed because he was a Prince and "because of his foreign relationships".
