Notes for WSC's broadcast (Washington [United States]) to the American people on the occasion of the lighting of the White House Christmas tree. WSC begins by saying that although he is far from his country he does not feel far from home because of his ties with the United States; expresses his hope that "for one night only, each home throughout the English-speaking world should be a brightly lighted island of happiness and peace"; and ends with wishes for a happy Christmas.
