Scope and Contents
Letter from E Roderick Dew, Lewis and Lewis, Solicitors, Ely Place, London EC1 to WSC, on out of court settlement between Randolph Churchill and Sir Thomas White, for libel in the Wavertree [Liverpool] by-election. Stating that the result [Randolph agreed to pay damages of 1,000 pounds] was far better than fighting the action out. Commenting that the settlement would not affect Randolph's political career, but if he had been cross examined by Sir Patrick Hastings it was possible that "things would have been said which might have had some reaction hereafter".
