Scope and Contents

Letter from James, 4th Lord Salisbury, Cranborne Lodge, Salisbury, to WSC, thanks for sending papers on suppression of evidence of Indian Section of Manchester Chamber of Commerce to the Joint Select Committee on Indian Constitutional Reform, commenting that when the Manchester witnesses had appeared before the Committee it was obvious that they had been "got at". "I was profoundly disgusted. It was useless to put any questions...Clearly the business of a Committee is to get at the truth, and equally clearly what the papers which you send me disclose made it impossible for the Committee to get at the truth in this particular". Also commenting that he was very dissatisfied with the attitude of the Government in reference to the Joint Select Committee.
