(Untitled), 18 Jan 1924
Scope and Contents
Letter from Violet, Lady Bonham Carter [earlier Violet Asquith, later Lady Violet Bonham Carter, later Lady Asquith of Yarnbury] (Dorset House, Dorset Street, [London]) to WSC regretting that WSC's published letter [advocating the passage of an anti- Socialist address to the Crown] is a public definition of his differences with the rest of the Liberal Party, considering the position of the Labour Government and the Liberal attitude towards it, praising the recent speech by Herbert Asquith [later 1st Lord Oxford and Asquith], which was also admired by Labour members like Philip Snowden [later Lord Snowden], and arguing that the Labour Government "will suffer for the timidity & inefficiency of its members not for their violence.".
