Scope and Contents

Letter from Hazel, Lady Lavery (5 Cromwell Place, [London]) to WSC regretting that WSC seems to be backing Ulster against the Irish Free State [later Ireland] on the boundary question, from which some in Ireland have concluded that an attempt is being made to evade the carrying out of the Irish Treaty, although Lady Lavery has tried with some effect to restore the confidence of WSC's Irish friends. Encloses CHAR 2/136/35 as an example of the misrepresentation of the Irish situation which hinders the achievement of lasting peace. Also incloses the speech by Kevin O'Higgins at the Irish debating society in Oxford [see CHAR 2/135/107-130].
