Scope and Contents

Letter from Frederick Guest (on board SS "Homeric") to WSC noting that Lord Grey [earlier Sir Edward Grey] has resigned the Liberal leadership in the House of Lords and that Herbert Asquith [later 1st Lord Oxford and Asquith] will not contest Paisley [Renfrewshire, Scotland] and asking for WSC's views on David Lloyd George's probable bid for the Liberal leadership. Expresses the wish not to become involved in controversy over the Irish treaty amendment bill so as not to threaten the "perfect Liberal and Conservative combination against the Socialist" which exists in North Bristol. Mentions that he will be playing in two polo tournaments, that he has met on board newspaper proprietors from New York [United States] and Montreal [Canada] and that the ship has had to ride out a storm.
