Scope and Contents

Letter from [WSC] to Sir James Masterton Smith arguing that the report of the Dardanelles Commission was too much shaped by the wish to justify Vice-Admiral John de Robeck's position. Asserts that evidence in the report shows that a continued naval and air attack before the arrival of German submarines would have succeeded. Refers to the failure to foresee the importance of mine-sweeping and the weakness of air support and states that he will not agree to Sir Julian Corbett [author of the official naval history of the war] accepting the report as the last word on the subject. Typescript copy.
