Scope and Contents
Letter from 2nd Lord Tweedmouth (HMS Enchantress, Portsmouth, [Hampshire]) to WSC congratulating him on his entry into the Cabinet [as President of the Board of Trade] and wishing him success in the North-West Manchester by- election. Thanks WSC for warning him against "rash and precipitate action" and reports the view of Admiral Sir John Fisher [later Lord Fisher] that Tweedmouth [as First Lord of the Admirality] should be "a naval watchdog in the Cabinet." Complains of his transfer from the Admiralty to "a high placed sinecure" [the Lord Presidency of the Council].
