Scope and Contents
Letter from Clare Sheridan to WSC, expressing delight that he was to have his portrait painted by Oswald Birley, describing Birley as "one of our great contemporary portrait painters...a lovely person and a gallant man", who had carried on painting in spite of losing an eye while serving with the Home Guard, noting that he had done the best portrait of King George VI, but that he did not exhibit at the Royal Academy "they having treated him as they treat me" original ms, with typescript copy, annotated by WSC.
