Includes a report of a meeting of the Inter-departmental Council on Military Rewards; the Colonial Defence Committee constitution and work, 1885-1904; and papers prepared by Colonial Office officials on the constitution of responsible government in the Transvaal [South Africa] (WSC), the introduction of Chinese labour into the Transvaal, the political views of Johannesburg [South Africa] Town Council, the corporal punishment of Chinese labourers, the position of the British South Africa Company in relation to the Bechuanaland Protectorate [later Botswana], the general scheme of defence for Australia, "Secret" and "Private and Personal" telegrams on the proceedings of the Transvaal Committee of Inquiry, railway construction in Nigeria (WSC), land settlement in South Africa (WSC), the Uganda railway (WSC, with sketch to show existing and projected railways), and the war contribution loan (with annotations by Frederick Graham, Assistant Under-Secretary of State, Colonial Office).
