Scope and Contents
Correspondents include (some of whom are writing to John S Churchill, in WSC's absence): representatives of Nicholl, Manisty, Few and Company [solicitors] (40), representatives of George G Harrap and Company including Walter Harrap (12), Sir Walter Monkton, Brendan Bracken (3), F J Wearing (clerk to Sir William Raeburn), and a representative of George Newnes Limited, on a dispute between WSC and Harrap's over the termination of an agreement to publish the above book.Also includes: notes by WSC explaining why he can no longer write the book; legal advice for WSC prepared by Charles Henderson [barrister]; notes of a meeting between WSC and George Harrap; legal papers in the matter of arbitration; a German Telegraph Service report and a cutting from the Daily Herald by Hannen Swaffer about the case; a copy of an agreement between Harcourt Brace and Company and WSC for the US rights to the book (dated July 1938) and related correspondence.
