Letters to Thomas Jones, 1937-01-11 - 1937-05-17
Scope and Contents
Thomas Jones was at this time Secretary of the Pilgrim Trust for which Lady Grigg had worked prior to her departure for India. Whereas her letters to Dorothy Hammonds are often frivolous, these are generally serious. They demonstrate that there was a strong friendship between the two. Lady Grigg was unswervingly loyal to her husband and on occasions hoped that `T.J.' would use his influence to make Sir James's point of view understood. There is frequently a tone of despair in the letters, not only because she feels she is leading a useless life, but because Whitehall pays little heed to its appointees once they are on the other side of the world.
