Probably notes taken during visits to museums, as they were 'begun in Munich' and carry on with headings 'Verona', 'Venice', 'Florence' etc. They are commentary on the art, mostly statues. A loose sheet of notes entitled 'Olympia: what it was and is' is included, and a draft letter of condolence to 'my dear madame' (7 Dec 1878).
