Alesandro Marchetti's translation of Lucretius, 1600 - 1699
Scope and Contents
The title page reads 'Della natura delle cose. Tradotto in lingua Italiana Dal Dottor Signor Alesandro Marchetti Filosofo, e Mathematico, Della celebre Universita di Pisa. Libri Sei.' The manuscript is a 17th century fair copy, in at least two hands, probably marked up by a later hand for printing. At the end 2 folios have been sewn in which are transcripts of Marchetti's original foreword to his translation, and of the Florentine Inquisition's licence for the publication of the work, 26 August 1670.
