Scope and Contents
22 autograph letters signed (1 is addressed to Rosamond Lehmann and Wogan Philipps) and 1 autograph postcard signed. The file includes:-
- typescript of a poem by Stephen Spender entitled, 'Dream No Dream' with a dedication to Rosamond Lehmann
- annotated galley proof of Stephen Spender's poem, 'Missing my daughter', enclosed with letter of 12 Jun. [1953]. This poem was withdrawn from the 'New Statesman and Nation' when Stephen Spender objected to a critical review of 'The Echoing Grove'
- typescript translation of a poem by Stefan George (1868-1933, German poet and translator), with the first line, 'My child came home ...'. On the back is a poem (or continuation of the same poem) with the first line, 'What I expected was ...'
- typescript of 'The Prisoners' on the back of an autograph manuscript letter to Rosamond Lehmann and Wogan Philipps dated 25 Apr. [no year, possibly 1930s].
