Scope and Contents

Manuscript, partly in the hand of the poet's wife Mary (to whom the poem is dedicated) and partly in that of his sister Dorothy, with revisions and additions in the poet's own hand. Also in the poet's hand are (1) the prefatory sonnet 'Weak is the will of man' and (2) draft of the dedicatory poem ('In trellis'd shed') written on the blank spaces of two discarded proof sheets, folded and bound in at the end. The manuscript was used by the printer of the first edition. The volume is bound in 19th century brown morocco.
