Scope and Contents
Comprises:-
- lithograph of Jane Austen;
- fragment cut from an autograph manuscript letter from Austen to Anna Lefroy, [late February-early March 1815], together with a letter (23 March 1931) from Anna's granddaughter about the fragment and two black and white photographs of the fragment;
- three examples (four fragments) of Austen's handwriting from her transcript of a sermon by her brother James, together with three notes of authentication by Edward Austen Leigh;
- provenance note from DJ Gilson;
- photographs and negatives of the fragment of letter to Lefroy;
- photocopy of a typescript extract of a letter from JE A[usten] L[eigh] to M A[usten] L[eigh];
- photocopies and photographs of other samples of Austen's writing which are probably more fragments of [the same] sermon transcript, together with typescript transcripts of the Jane Austen manuscript fragments, with notes on the owners of the fragments, and photocopy extracts from publications about them.
