Estate maps, 1850 - 1914
Scope and Contents
Bundle of maps and plans of College lands and property in Prescot. Comprises:
- 'Prescot U[rban] D[istrict] C[ouncil] proposed recreation ground' surveyed in 1897 by W Goldsworth, covering 4a.34.21p.4 yards at the corner of Hall Lane, Sewell Road, the Wood footpath, Engine Inn and College Road and including the old colliery grounds;
- 1914 tracing of a 'Prescot plan shewing tithe map nos. 30 and 31' by Boult Son & Maples, including Cockshoots (purchased by the British Insulated Wire Co.) and the land between College Road and Station Road;
- 'BIW Co Ltd Prescot' tracing showing the land bounded by Wood Lane and King Street, Rye Hey field (not shown), Prescot Hall, the railway and (almost to) Warrington Road, including old mine shafts at the corner of Sewell and the Wood footpath;
- 'BIW Co Ltd Prescot' tracing showing the land bounded by Shaw Lane, Hall Lane, and Prescot Station;
- 'Plan of land (3a.1r.34p) sold to the London + North Western Rly Co. May 25, 1868' along Snig Lane and the railway;
- 'Proposed sale to the London + North Western Rly Co. 13 Sept. 1867' showing land bounded by Shaw Lane, Snig Lane (Sewell Street), Kemble Street (Cockshoots only is shown) and including proposed roads (College and Manchester Roads) and the railway;
- 1903 tracing of the land bounded by Station Road, College Road, Sewell Street and Cambridge Street, including part of Williams Street and Chester Street;
- 'Township of Prescot' showing the land between Shaw Lane and Derby Street with the estate delineated in pink, land between the Wood footpath and Derby/West Road marked as 'proposed to be purchased', notes of the vicarial and rectorial glebe land added to the church yard, proposed roads (Manchester and College) and intended station site;
- two plans of the Imperial Hotel and neighbouring site at the corner of College Road and an intended street (Bridge Road), one showing the bowling green (undated) and the other the stone heap (1910);
- plan of the buildings in 'Higherfield House Garden' 1867 with a strip of land coloured pink;
- plan of a strip of garden between Higherfield House and West Street;
- tracing of the land between the Wood footpath and road and Prescot Brook, annotated 'see F Smith's Letter Feb 16, 1887';
- 'Tracing to accompany letter of this date November 19th 1891' made by W Goldsworth, showing land between College Road, Station Road, and Sewell Street;
- 'tracing from the tithe map in the custody of F. Smith Esq.. Prescot, Jan. 1895 by B.L.G.' showing the township of Prescot and annotated with a line for the 'extension of Churchyard', the 1844 Whiston and Parish boundary, and land marked in pink for the proposed railway;
- 'Plan of the Prescot Hall Estate' showing land bounded by Turnpike Road (Derby Street), Hooley's Walk (West Street), the churchyard, Hillock Street (Kemble Street), including the railway and the College fields southeast of it;
- 1851 drawing of 'Vicarage Field', 8a.2r.0p located to the west of the vicarage;
- tracing of land between Station Road, College Road, the railway and Warrington Road with the boundaries of the British Insulated and Helsby Cables Ltd, site of the old road, Cockshoots footpath, and proposed site of a new road marked in parallel strips to the northwest of the railway line;
- empty envelope of 'Large Plan Prescot'.
