Biographical / Historical

The first College library was situated in three of the south side chapels between c. 1570-1828. Smithson's plan of the Chapel, c. 1620 (Royal Institute of British Architecture Drawings AE 5/290) describes the souther-side chapel M-O as the 'library'. These three chapels still had 17th century presses with older theological books in the 1950-1970s according to page 22 of A N L Munby's 'Cambridge College Libraries: Aids for Research Students' (1962).
