Scope and Contents
Relates mainly to the subjects of English, Classics, and History; includes typescript letter from MR James (Provost), regarding the organisation of an emergency appeal donation for the Cambridge branch of the Red Cross; typescript letter from JH Clapham requesting information as to the members of the College taking commissions or other appointments in the army, and to stipulate regiment and rank (29 August 1914); typescript declaration stating that employers at the University and in the Town of Cambridge, will reinstate all employees in military service upon their discharge, to their former positions; includes typescript letter from W[alter] Durnford suggesting that members of the High Table might send ‘comforts’ to the Officers of the North Staffordshire Regiment for the coming Winter; further typescript letter from W Durnford stating that £25 had been donated to the Officers of the North Staffordshire Regiment by members of the High Table; includes typescript letter from JH Clapham stating that the University is offering degrees to men who have been in residence for two years and on service for the past year, provided they got through part of the Tripos or Honours May Examination; includes typescript list of names, with handwritten annotations, with rank and marital status (15 August 1916); typescript letter to students regarding Army Order stating that all University students who are temporarily exempted will be required to enrol in O[fficer] T[raining] C[orps] to undertake military training (15 December 1916); typescript copy of ‘Nominal Roll of Officers of No. 2 Officer Cadet Battalion'.
