Scope and Contents
Letters patent of Richard II giving licence for grant of lands at Coltishall by Sir Simon Felbrigg and James Billyngford to Mr John Felbrigg, parson of Coltishall. The Great Seal of Richard II in green wax is attached on blue and yellow laces.

Description of Seal
Quantity: 1 seal.
Attachment: Pendant on cord made up of plaited black and gold cords.
Colour: Dark green.
Damage: 3 – moderate damage.
Shape and size: 118mm x 90mm. Circular, with large fragment missing from right hand side.
Impression(s) and single or double-sided: Double-sided. Great seal of Richard II. One side shows king seated in centre of triple tabernacle, with royal coats of arms on either side. All three figures are below canopies. King sits on throne on top of plinth, and holds sceptre in his right hand, and orb topped with very long cross in his left hand. Quadruped animals (dogs?) sit at king’s feet. Small knights stand within niches outside the niches for king and coats of arms. Legend partially legible. Reverse side shows king atop horse, holding shield bearing royal arms and sword outstretched behind. King wears knight’s helmet. Horse wears caparison with decorations including lions passant. Legend partially legible, it reads “RICARDUS DEI GRACIA R… FRANCI….”.
